Turó de l’Home - Girona
Last month I had the chance to spend a few days in Barcelona and decided to go for a ride with some climbs and do a quick visit to Girona - one of my favorite cities in this region.
I took the train from Barcelona to Sant Celoni, a town at the bottom of the Montseny National Park, and started my way up to the highest point of this massif, the peaks of Turó de l'Home at 1,706 meters. I had done part of this climb before but never had the chance to take the left turn at the top of Montseny which takes you to the highest part of the mountain.
The weather was perfect for a route like this and fortunately, the temperature didn’t go up that much. As I progressed through the climb, the views were getting more impressive and that helped make the first hour and a half, a really enjoyable ride.
At the crossroad that goes up to Turó de l’Home, I was about to finish my water and food and assumed that the summit would be just a few more minutes away. Of course, I was too optimistic and the way to the top took a bit more than expected - around 45 minutes. The roads at the top were quite degraded but the views were impressive. With such a good day with blue skies, it was possible to have an almost 360 ° view over this region of Catalunya and even see the Mediterranean at the end of the horizon.
The way down was fun and quick, with a stop at the roadside to eat the classic bread with tomato, have a drink, and face the last kilometers until Girona.
I arrived by sunset time and was lucky to see, once again, this pretty town and its river covered in perfect orange sunlight. For sure I will be missing days like these in the following months! :)
